How to use the arts across the curriculum
Arts for healing
The arts can be deeply personal, emotional and aid in teaching Ontario's SEL curriculum. For students with behavioural challenges, art can be a pathway to overcome difficult experiences and engage in the learning environment more actively.
Arts for choice
By providing students with a creative option to demonstrate their learning, students will be able to take ownership over their learning process and feel a personal connection to the subject being taught, in turn increasing student engagement.
arts for DIFFERENTIATION
Many students who have modified or accommodated expectations in language will benefit from a creative or visual option that still allows them to participate in the lesson, and can help to increase the pace at which ELL students begin to build essential vocabulary.
